Definitely - How it began

Definitely: A Story of Kindness and Empathy was written for my students and about them. Through its pages, I hope others will realize how small acts of kindness and understanding can profoundly impact the hearts of those around us.

During family dinners, I often share funny actual classroom stories with my family, who encourage me to turn these tales into books. The original manuscript for Definitely: A Story of Kindness and Empathy was written several years ago and shared with a few close friends. However, it remained in the "writing" folder on my computer until last spring, when I decided it was time for the story to be shared with the world.

Definitely not only reflects my own story, but it also includes the stories of students who have touched my life. I have learned countless valuable lessons and experienced many special moments with my students, and publishing books is my way of sharing those experiences. The story in Definitely is inspired by a particular group of students who displayed exceptional empathy and kindness. Their care for one another touched me daily because such empathy is rare in young children, who can be more self-centered at this age. I knew I had to share their story and the kindness they demonstrated. That same year, one of the little guys in my classroom charmed my heart when he often used the word “definitely” in his conversations. Whether he was sharing exciting news from home, asking for help when he was anxious, or making a learning connection, “definitely” was always part of his story. This, along with the overall kindness of all the students, now becomes the full story.
