Madelyn's Crayons - The Beginning
Madelyn plays happily with her classmates while they chatter and laugh. When they talk to her, she smiles but she doesn’t understand and they don’t understand her. These language barriers common in today’s classrooms inspired Madelyn’s Crayons, the first book in Madelyn and Miguel’s Language Journey Series. Madelyn’s vibrant artwork introduces young readers to color words in Spanish and English.

Madelyn's Crayons - The Beginning
She walked through my classroom door with the other children, bubbling with energy, her smile full of joy, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Like the other children, she clung to her parents just a bit longer and then began playing with the new friends and toys that spread around the room. The difference? While the other children began to chatter and laugh during their play, she listened silently. When the other children talked to her, she smiled charmingly but rarely spoke. When she did, they didn’t understand and she did not understand them. Being children, they found ways to communicate and enjoyed their time together but we knew we could help them understand and value each other’s languages. From this beginning grew Madelyn and Miguel’s Language Journey Series.
The first book in this series, Madelyn’s Crayons, introduces us to Madelyn and her world of colors. As she prepares to start school, Madelyn receives a new box of crayons. Thrilled with the beautiful colors, she opens her box and begins coloring simple pictures. Through Madelyn’s colorful pictures, our young readers are introduced to the basic color words in Spanish and English thus the Journey begins.
